Work Report

Since leaving St Peter The Apostles high school which is based in Clydebank in 2017 I started off at Glasgow City College studying NQ Portfolio skills which gave me the outlook of how to make different art pieces while being in the creative mindset it had also given me the idea to come into the art of creative industries where I applied for the NC Media course at Clydebank campus of West College Scotland this is where I gained my love of Media. Throughout my NC Media year, I had been taught the skills of various programmes and how to network with people in the class to create projects such as Advertising and Directing while also managing to work with a camera for Single Camera Production given these skills had granted me the ability to work as a runner for my filming module in April-June in 2019 NC Media also made me fall in love with Production more I was more keen on Radio and TV. Having that NC Media course completed I was more confident to start into the world of broadcast but during the summer break I had worked a stocktaking job at a company called Orridge where I was a counter so I was tasked with counting how many items there are on a sheet with all the products but before then I Had applied and got into HNC Radio at City Of Glasgow College where my love for Radio began while podcasting was at an all-time high I felt as if I could make a change into the media world of broadcasting. Though Radio is completely adaptable it has many ranges from advertising, news bulletins and travel updates I had soon learned that D.A.B (Meaning Digital Audio Broadcasting) is the more common term for online radio shows as there are currently over 170 brands that broadcast shows every day it was found that

‘ It is sometimes mistakenly assumed that the term ‘Digital Radio’ refers only to DAB radio (Radio which is transmitted via Digital Audio Broadcasting)  whilst DAB is the fastest growing platform via any digital platform, and perhaps in simple terms could be better defined as ‘Multi-platform radio’ “ (Radio Advertising Bureau 2006a: 4)

We had started off in campus September 2019 but soon had to do online learning due to Covid-19 Within the pandemic we as students had to learn to be adaptable in online learning but it faced many challenges Shivangi Dhawan once stated that  “. It is a challenge for institutions to engage students

and make them participate in the teaching-learning process.” (Shivangi Dhawan 2020) but also make it more challenging to the learner as they don’t feel that compatibility to the module with their tutor/lecturer but more limitations towards the courses and attention span   “The students also reported limited attention span and resource intensive nature of online learning as a limitation.”   (Khadijah Mukhtar, May 2020)

however this gave me the skills to produce my own Radio shows and gave me the skills to interview clientele so I know that i’m capable to arrange and produce great interviews for various programmes, I have past experience within making idents and jingles for these radio shows which is something I have gained more knowledge of within the last 4 years of media studies, I soon applied for the HND Radio and I got in and this way I learned how to do news bulletins, travel updates and magazine shows with feeling confident I thought I’d be best to apply to university to widen my experiences and I applied to many courses throughout Scotland however one took the best career choice for me so I chose University West of Scotland - Broadcast Production and I got in march 2021 but I thought it’d be best to get more experience before and I had noticed that there was a small local voluntary radio job called River Radio (now has changed to Lomand Radio) where I applied for a role in April 2021 and got into it I produced a show every Sunday 10 pm-12 am every Sunday night I was currently doing my HND Graded Unit at the time balancing both was hard but I soon realised that my Education was more important and chose to leave the job to continue my studies. I had started my third year studying, I learned how to make better radio shows and sonic IDs, I gained more experience in being a runner and helped create and produce many shows within studio production, My third year of Broadcast Production helped me gain more networking skills within the industry. I created some taster tapes and advertisements and gained more editing skills within apps such as Premier Pro and Adobe Audition to where I was able to edit my taster tapes, Radio shows and Magazine shows. I passed enough to get into my Honours year of Broadcast Production and while I was waiting for that to start I worked in a nightclub in Glasgow called The Garage where I was a glass collector, my tasks included cleaning facilities, mopping up and picking up cups/glasses to take back to the dishwasher I took this job and It wasn’t really for me so I knew that Media was my course at heart. September 2022 was when Broadcast Production Hons started and at first, I learned that we had to do a massive Project for a module known as Creative Research Project this gave me the ability to have ideas to make a podcast about sex work and I called it “Behind Closed Doors: A Sex Work Podcast”  meanwhile I was also making a podcast series for my Podcasting module to help promote a town called Maybole based in Southern Ayrshire with their regeneration project and I had made a poster for the podcast series and I had called the podcast series “ The Maybole Regeneration Project Podcast” which was a great help towards the project. For my CRP Project, I then contacted many people to create content with and I gained a few interviewees and managed to make 3 15-minute podcasts about sex work. Now that CRP is finished as is my education I have applied for jobs at Stem Returners which are helpers at STV. I’m manifesting more career opportunities within the media sector.
